BOARD OF DIRECTORS CREATES THE ANGUS C. MACALISTER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND
November 2008
By: Gail Lee, Scholarship Committee Chairman
We are in the process of finalizing guidelines for the Angus MacAlister Memorial Scholarship. It will be a $500 scholarship offered to Scottish Clan members and their decedents for post secondary education endeavors. We are excited about this new offering that coincides with our newly obtained 501 (C)(3) tax exempt status.
Applicants will be required to write a 200-400 word essay about someone of Scottish descent and how they contributed to society in general or to the applicant personally. We will be printing some of the essays in the
Besides being judged on the essay, applicants will be required to provide proof of grade point average during their last two (2) semesters of formal schooling or a letter from an employer if their absence from school is more than two (2) years. Applicants will also provide a letter of recommendation from an unrelated teacher, administrator, or coach.
Emphasis will be placed on the character of the student and not necessarily on highest grade point average. Our goal is to provide assistance to someone who will follow through with his/her educational goals.
Winners will be selected by the Scholarship Selection Committee consisting of three people, one of which must be a Board Member. The current committee consists of Sherrié McAllister, June Miyaji, and Gail Lee. The selection must then be approved by the Board of Directors.

Brian and Jessica Alexander’s Wedding

Brian and Jessica Alexander
Brian and Jessica Alexander were married on November 22, 2009 at the Redondo Beach Historic Library in Redondo Beach, CA. Brian is the son of Clan MacAlister Society President, John Alexander and his wife Laura.
The ceremony was performed by Brian’s uncle, Chuck Alexander. His sister, Jennifer, and her husband, Bob, were part of the wedding party. It was a beautiful day as the photo by the ocean will attest. The couple traveled to Paris, Venice, Florence and Rome for their honeymoon.
Brian is the Script Coordinator for Law & Order SVU and has written episodes of Desperate Housewives. Jessica works for Reveille LLC, the company that produces the Office, Biggest Loser and Ugly Betty. They will reside in the Los Angeles area.
Congratulation to the happy couple and may they have long loving lives together.

Fortiter April 2009

Clan Village Holyrood Park
Gathering 2009 Edinburgh Scotland
As most of you know Clan MacAlister Society is hosting the MacAlister Clan Tent during the Gathering 2009 in Edinburgh in July. We now have the specifications for the tents that the Gathering Committee is providing for all the clans in attendance. What is nice is that we do not have to bring our own tent to the event which would have been a logistic nightmare. While all the tents will be alike we are allowed to furnish the interior any way we like.
In an effort to furnish the tent in an appropriate manner I am asking for any one that would like to contribute to the furnishing of the tent to let me know what you have that you would like to contribute to that effort. While I have some items that I will be taking from my collection of stuff I would appreciate your help with providing some of the items that I will take with me to make the interior of the tent look great.
If you have something that you believe would be appropriate for the MacAlister tent I would like to hear from you. Send me an email at dennis.mac@sbcglobal.net and include a picture of the item(s) with the size so I can determine if it would be something we can use and that I have room to take it. Remember that it will need to fit in a suitcase and not be bulky. I am only allowed two suitcases and I will need to take some clothes along too.
The size of the tent is 10’x10’. Some idea of what the arrangement of tents is shown in the drawing. Exterior signage will be furnished by the Gathering Committee so that there will be a consistent look to all the tents but we are free to have any signage, drapes and furnishing inside the tent we wish.
If your item is selected for the Gathering tent I will return the item to you after the event with an official certificate of participation to display with the item when you use it in your Clan Tent. How great is that. So send me your ideas as soon as possible so if selected we can make arrangement for you to get it to me in a timely manner. Looking forward to hearing from you shortly.
